I heard on the news this morning that the pre-Halloween snowstorm that hit the Northeast on Saturday did more damage to the power supply system than Hurricane Irene did back in August. There are still people without power and heat, and I'm certainly hoping everything gets back to normal soon for them.
Of the rest of us who were merely inconvenienced by the freak snowfall, I guess everybody has their own story.
Ours involved a four-hour trip to NYC (it usually takes just an hour) that resembled the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles."
(Except for that there were unexpected buses in there as well, and we got yelled at by one of the drivers when we didn't understand that you can't pay for a bus ride with dollar bills. He got very exasperated and said, "Just go sit down!" We were humiliated, but the bus ride was free).
Although the snow has now melted, the storm seems to have ushered in winter temperatures. I went to get youngest daughter a hat and gloves and scarf for school this morning, and noticed something shocking about her winter gear.
You would think that my kids would have more than enough hats and gloves and scarves, right? Technically they do -- but nothing matches!
Apparently I make things for my kids out of scraps I have leftover from other projects. It's like the proverbial shoemaker's children that go barefoot. For shame! This will most certainly have to be remedied.
