Thanks to the Continued Popularity of Harry Potter...

...here's a 10-year-old who was very happy to wear her sister's Hogwarts robe and an old, generic witch hat on Halloween.

Back in the day, our older kids often had elaborate hand-sewn costumes. Batman and Catwoman. Mary (complete with a prairie dress, bonnet and shepherd's staff) and a fuzzy pink little lamb. Snow White. A furry cheetah. A 50's girl with a poodle skirt. Hermoine Grainger here did actually get to wear some of those costumes, too, albeit third-hand.

But I must say I was pretty thankful that she settled on this simple costume. After over 20 YEARS of having a child or, more frequently, multiple children in need of Halloween-wear, it gets a little redundant.

Interesting. My oldest child is 22 and my youngest is 7. My energy left me after the last one. The first 3 I did all this crafty and fun food stuff with them... and managed to keep the house semi tidy. But with the last two I feel kind of bad because I just don't do that fun stuff any more. I don't know if I'm too old or just burnt out. Still managed to put together last minute costume for them though.

I totally understand what you say about feeling bad, Laura. As much as I may want to, it's impossible to do the exact same things with and for each successive child -- family circumstances change, as do external things (one of the most notable being the availability of the Internet and cell phones). I just hope all of my children know that we love them and always did the best we could.
